BMW 1 Series — What to know
The E87/E81 1 Series is rear-wheel drive and shares many mechanical parts with the 3 Series. The later F20/F21 switched to front-wheel drive. Parts are generally less expensive than the 3 Series but the body is smaller, which can make access harder and labour time longer on some jobs.
What is this repair?
Plain-English overview
The serpentine belt drives the alternator, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor and water pump from the crankshaft. A snapped belt leaves the car without charging, power steering or cooling simultaneously.
